Our Mission

AWARE's mission strives to prevent and heal the trauma of domestic and sexual violence in the greater Hardwick area in such a way that people of all ages are empowered to act towards themselves and others with awareness, empathy, respect, and personal responsibility.

At AWARE, our work is grounded in non-violence, integrity, and empowerment. We believe survivors are the experts of their own lives and deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. Our survivor-centered, trauma-informed approach honors personal boundaries and supports each individual’s unique path to healing.

We value honesty, transparency, and excellence in all aspects of our work—from direct support services to organizational leadership. Whether someone is seeking services, volunteering, working on staff, or serving on our Board of Directors, we strive to foster an environment of mutual care, accountability, and growth.

AWARE also believes in the power of collaboration and community transformation. We are committed to listening with openness, welcoming new ideas, and engaging the community in building a culture that no longer tolerates violence.

Our vision is a future where all people are safe, heard, and empowered to thrive—where change is created together, and decisions are made with care, equity, and shared responsibility.
